Liberated from Symantec!!

Broken_chainI'm free!...And now so is my home computer's security system.  After several years of threatening to get off the merry-go-round of security software, I finally did it.

Every summer I'd grumble about having to spend another $50 or $60 for a renewal to Symantec's security suite.  Rather than giving them my credit card number one more time, I did two things: First, I switched from Norton's firewall to the free one in Windows.  Second, I downloaded AVG's free antivirus package.  I had already been using this product on both the laptops for my kids as well as another home system; it's a fantastic product and you can't beat the price (free).

Once everything was in place, poof!, I disabled Norton and felt pretty darned satisfied, I might add.  Oh, btw, one final note: After installing AVG I did a full system scan.  Guess what?  It found several infected files and immediately quarantined them for me.  Funny how my pricey Symantec product didn't catch any of those...
